Star Worldwide Movers was formed in January 1996, as a consequence of the restructuring of one of India’s foremost family owned moving groups.
The Mithals family business has it’s origins sometime in the late 50s, when the late Mr. Jag Mithal, former Chairman of the Board at Star, who at the time, while being primarily involved in a Company handling travel and general cargo freight forwarding services, started to provide value addition to his customers, by taking care of the logistics and transportation of their personal & household effects that needed to be packed & shipped.
In 1975, Al Mithal, President & CEO of Star Worldwide Group, joined the family business after having completed his training in Transportation & Traffic Management at Merchants International, a leading International Household Goods moving company in Washington, D.C., USA. He started to play a major role in the development of the family’s international moving business.
In 1994, India, which had till then been a primarily closed economy, opened it’s door to foreign investment and the major economic reforms and liberalisation that followed, saw the in flux of major multi-national corporations from around the world. Many of the Fortune 500 companies started investing into India and they required a comprehensive and diverse range of services to quickly and smoothly settle their executives and families in India, a hitherto relatively unknown region in Corporate moving.
To avail these increasing market opportunities and cater to the extremely high levels of service expected by these large multi-national corporations required, in 1995, Al Mithal made a major strategic decision to focus exclusively on the international & domestic Household Goods Moving business. Following a restructuring of the family business, he formed Star Worldwide Movers in January 1996, as a division of a family owned company and in July 1997, Star was independently registered as Star Worldwide Movers Pvt. Ltd.
